The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. Joaquin Phoenix的舅舅身上完全看不到丝毫小丑的影子，黑白镜头下的洛杉矶温柔、浪漫、美丽得像首诗一样，其他城市也展现出了别样的气质。摄影的运镜非常的subtle，贴合本片的气质。因为男主的职业与录音有关，本片声效也做得非常的细致。小男孩受其音乐家父亲的影响，喜欢古典音乐，所以包括德彪西的《月光》在内的古典音乐被多次运用，当然Dessner两兄弟的原创配乐也非常优秀，A24已经给它们制成唱片了。美术方面运用了非常多的pattern和非常多的set dressing丰富了小男孩和妈妈生活的家。正是这些丰富的线条材质让他们家即使在黑白镜头下显现出了层次感。当然，这个家按理来说并不大，所以摄影师用了很多镜面来让这个空间显得更加的丰富。
6.9.绝不是网球版《摔跤吧爸爸》。故事别出心裁的将重心放在了大威小威的父亲理查德威廉姆斯身上，对其性格特点和高瞻远瞩进行了细致入微而又不失真实的刻画，加上威尔史密斯堪称影帝级的《当幸福来敲门》式的表演，使本片作为一部传记片已经成功了一大半。第三幕居然选取了一场失败的比赛作为ending也算是不落俗套。美中不足在于篇幅较长的家庭戏码使影片显得拖沓和沉闷，种族议题也并不深刻，对父女之间的冲突也没有深入描写导致略显失真。

1.5；都2022年了，能不能不要再拍这种流水线式的传记片了。完全是情绪的过度表演和可能性的坍缩。拍成纪录片都好很多。
很不错，体育题材里属于上乘之作了。自古英雄出少年，说得真不错。Richard这性格现实中确实难搞，只能说在万千给自己孩子定计划的父亲里，他恰好实现了。幸好谷爱凌妈妈给了另一种视角。
现在对美式励志主旋律真没啥感觉了，虽然我还是喜欢传记和体育题材。其实主创也想反映一些深层次问题，肤色、阶层等等，但是这草蛇灰线还是刻意了点。当然，有的比赛场面我还是会有代入感。ps：字幕组不行，桑普拉斯、麦肯罗、桑切斯、卡普里亚蒂等等名字都不知道。
不管理查德这种做法是否正确（毕竟这个东西没有公式可以套）但他坚持让大小威保障学业的做法太正确了。
很难得见到这样一部成人与孩童对话的电影。从相对客观的角度去观察他们之间的代沟与隔阂。看过太多成人视角来讲述他们眼中的未成年人的故事片，都带着成年人自己的价值判断和思维逻辑，而这部片子以舅舅和外甥几天的相处过程为主线，用客观纪录的方式来给未成年人表达的空间，无处不在地强调着对未成年人“倾听”与“表达”的重视。
印象里威廉姆斯姐妹的父亲是个有着偏向于负面评价的人物，但人还在世，估计也不敢乱编。好看的电影，顺口到有点俗套，尤其是威尔史密斯发现小威偷偷参加比赛，晃悠着去一看究竟，轻快到近于轻佻的配乐，感觉恍若在看80年代国产或港产轻喜剧片。对我个人而言，大小威更接近两个命运未知的个人，而不再是天生闪耀的明星。而这一切的不同开启于这个不同寻常的父亲。除此以外，到没看出什么。WYT

威尔史密斯好棒啊，剧本也没落入运动电影的范式。很好看。
用既有的现实把开头的台词都变成“爽片”式打脸，再以一场著名的失败作结。剧作上对父亲的过分聚焦则让大小威的传奇完全变成了一个天赋决定论的成功学故事，主角本身前后矛盾的行为也被强行美化，这么一群难以捉摸的纸片人物（这两个词组似乎有点矛盾）一来二去，只让人觉得大小威这么打网球还真挺憋屈的。
