The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 没有选择用力过猛的催泪渲染，赛道上几乎窒息的面孔、超过火车时母亲的惊愕、运动员做快递员的尴尬、举起手指的第一名却总能四两拨千斤触摸到心底的角落，细节饱满的设计与大小苏桦伟的刻画，让平实的煽情有了灵魂。在树立母爱足以创造奇迹的同时，更打造了一部属于苏桦伟的传记。母爱、奔跑、残疾、贫困都组成了这段传奇，却又都只是他的一部分，创造神奇的成分尽是由生活淬炼。
真实故事改编
只能证明，社会对残障人士的待遇的确很不同，普通人也的确无法感知这种痛苦，光辉笼罩过一瞬，终会散去，留下的只有家人的爱
不知道为什么，看着吴君如开头红着眼睛说“救”的那一刻，就难以共情。
自从《岁月神偷》后，吴君如对于一个贤妻良母的演绎已经炉火纯青了。她演的奥运冠军他妈，显然比他老公导的奥运冠军，更好一些。
各个角色的演出出色，台词和剧本都写得很好。但是摄影手法和CG还以为在看《你好李焕英》，即便取景地和staff大多是本土出品，不过看不出港片特色。或许是为了进军大陆市场才作此选择。如果采用更朴素的摄影或许会是近年港片最佳
片尾曲竟然是阿jer献声的，好听!
后半段拍出了不一样的东西，主旋律励志转向现实议题，它那么残忍直接地让吴君如说出“你是天生残障没有人会怪你，他们只会怪我这个妈”，那个瞬间人物立住了
只要吴君如做妈妈。我都觉得她的儿子是麦兜。
補片。40屆金像獎兩部體育片，硬件不對等，導演水平高下立判，憑什麼擠掉《奪冠》？
比想象中好。香港的编剧还是很不错的，有几场重场戏的台词非常值得学习。想到《超越》，两者都是体育题材商业片，区别就在于这个片有真情实感，有真实的矛盾与冲突。这会让人忘记这其实是一部商业片。
两个主要演员确表现出色，真的扮演出来了母亲与残障儿子之间的动人感情，以演技已经能够让人动情。

老旧的香港背景让我中途有跳闪到麦兜兜和妈妈的画面，好温馨。故事有层次，有泪点，有励志，人物表演也自然感人，值得带孩子去看一看。
今年第一部看不下去中途走的电影，可能期望越大失望越大，没看之前我就跟朋友说励志片不会差到哪里去，我是个比较感性的人，特别容易哭，但是这部剧前部分特别的空，宁愿拍他努力的过程，这部电影让我觉得他的努力特别的苍白，二分给的是故事原型，向所有残疾不放弃的人致敬
泪点足，经费不足，排片不足。粤语歌有重新崛起的势头，港片要加油。
其实煽情不是问题，问题是这电影没什么质感，整体都是走一种脱离现实的情绪氛围在推动剧情，这种拍法着实复古
看哭了！觉得大家更应该关注一下残奥会，他们都太不容易了
