The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 整个电影的BGM很足，常常弄的人很燃，一开始又好气、如果你想拍一部高分片，找一个善良的弱势群体被欺负的很惨，然后为他们呐喊准能高分。
对封建帝制，儒家思想的批判，韩国电影还是这样一骑绝尘。
本来觉得节奏有点飘忽，强行拉完十几年的故事线，但最后从翻开书那一刻开始的念白太妙了，把前后的整个脉络和老师的理念升华了。
多希望我们的导演也拍一拍我们古代的文人，那些才是我们的文化自信，而不是某战役和某战役...

虽然以黑白片的形式表达出来，但明显感觉到场景是相当优美。浊浪排空，日星隐曜，浮光跃金，静影沉璧。男儿何治世？以庄子孔子的思想，还是基督信仰。为了功利为了入世而学习却不能为民。归去来兮，老师已在著书中西去。

我的2021年度最佳。贬谪文人意图以物忘我，反向《论语》亦可著书立说，多好的故事啊，只可惜它是部韩影。像黑山一样，做一个黑色无名之人，污泥满身，兼容并包。

明明是我们上下五千年的历史
看电影了没，“我想写的，是没有王的世道。” 惊了，他们已经拍出了这样主题的电影了。就是纯粹的知识分子在东亚文化里的典型命运。选择平和的，没有带血的那一侧，但和另一侧共通的，是意识到自己想报效的已经在根子上烂掉，是看着自己想守护的被剥夺更多践踏更多，看着船沉得马不停蹄日日夜夜想着自己是不是今天就是水面上最后一口气，这种无能为力的苦闷、挣扎、求生、反复、寄望与放弃。不是惊讶于拍得如何，而是惊讶于他们那里，这样一个项目真的有人去拍，有人去投，而且成了。太惊讶了。惊讶到我放弃比较——没有遗憾地放弃了。

像是说出了我去年决心去藏区的理由。可是，电影并没有回答，回到黑山岛的昌大，如何面对依旧难逃的社会桎梏呢？

虽然相当不喜欢朱熹和程朱理学，但是文化对人的影响力的确是无处不在，本片非常集中体现了中国古代文人的读书情结，所谓“居庙堂之高则忧其民，处江湖之远则忧其君”，进退亦忧。除了这种细腻的情绪以外，还表现了地处中华文化圈边缘的朝鲜在现代化进程中的纠结转变，也通过主角兼包并蓄的想法来提供了一个对传统与现代融合的理想化态度，非常难能可贵。此外我最爱其中“北风驱我来，行行遇海止”一句，北风冷峻，驱我向海，不仅是当时主角对自身遭遇的悲叹，也贴合着朝鲜山河历史的进程。
情何以堪。
乌贼墨放置久了，浮墨会脱落，无法看见字迹，但是倘若将纸浸入大海，字体便会再次显现出来。
