The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 不过以chapter的形式来叙事感觉有点偷懒，削弱了旅程和故事的连贯性，导致有几段游戏感很强烈，可能也是骑士故事中难以忽略掉巫术这个要素，会有点出戏。

凌厉狠辣地穿透了一齣又一齣主体为对治自身的大限而沉溺其中的fantasies, 剧终的“大彻大悟”即是最深的幻見，人类通过不断求索而终于为自己营造的无从察觉的执着和障碍。绿骑士最后一句台词无情地嘲弄了这终极的fantasy，这恋物式的拒认。这种嘲弄同时指向了所有观众。形神俱佳，精彩绝伦的作品。
如果你不是特别喜欢中世纪奇幻风的自然风光 就可能会看不完吧
完全看不懂 盎格鲁撒克逊文化下的奇幻故事完全没接触过
配乐音效灯光摄影都很不错，很值得学习。本来因为预告中巨人的出现而被吸引，结果巨人镜头太少了，有些可惜。全片和《迷失Z城》的味道一样，很想在大银幕感受这种光影与声音的魅力。
单论视听，称得上艺术品。故事和风格相比84版大相径庭，对原著的改编也不少，大卫·洛维这种非常A24的艺术片风格，加上晦涩的叙事，对普通观众确实不太友好，3星半。
用美丽的电影语言告诉我们一个向死而生的童话故事。
猫科和犬科真是人类纯真友谊的终极梦想，狮子和狼都不放过。大猫大狗依然可爱温情。然鹅直线剧情比较缺乏铺垫过分牵强，女主演技也莫名其妙似笑非笑。结局更是离谱做作。不过我也反对马戏团动物表演的行为，为了娱乐大众对动物太残忍。
美术方面是做得挺好，服装设计那是很有味道。以古代末期为背景的奇幻故事，氛围塑造是能被感受到的。可能是叙事不怎么“亲切”，比较玄乎且魔幻。开头高潮然后平稳下来……
乍一看啥玩意，看下来其实没有那么不堪，帮winfred找脑袋都那段是真的也要把我的头给笑掉哦，最大的问题应该是主题模糊吧，要不然就是我没看懂，我应该确实没看懂，不知道是关于骑士精神的主题，还是关于死亡与生命，又或者是人的成长？男人的成长？🤔
应该是目前看过A24片里，感觉最莫名其妙的片了。
视觉体验非常好。中间男主去到城堡的时候我以为来开门的会是米老鼠本人。
3.5星！从享乐，从纵容，从骑士之反面，从渴望被绿色腰带之守护到独自承担生命之醒悟。影片与原作有了一定改动，其并非是对高文爵士的那一高尚的骑士精神的诠释，相反则是通过描述其欲望与死亡恐惧等，进而呈现其在成为骑士之路途中的试炼以及自身之成长的故事。
看得云里雾里！摄影和配乐不错。但感觉得了解亚瑟王和高文爵士的故事背景，还有骑士精神内核才能enjoy；我看着觉得这神神叨叨，作法一般，怎么搞了两个多小时还没完。
对亚瑟王故事不了解的话极其劝退……画面倒是诡异唯美，但是剧情真的2倍速都不快……男主除了开头比较莽之外，后来一怂到底看着也很没意思……难得树人还觉得他有骑士精神，不过就是被吓傻了
骑士和国王的冲突,在路上遇见的各个人都在最后有了对应.摄影可能是今年最强了
一部骑士精神的教科书，一部战国策-父母之爱子则为之计深远。
飞加拿大的旅途上看的，故事没有连贯性，不是啥好剧本，就靠三个主角的颜值撑着…雪狼学者矫情又讨人厌差点硬和女主凑CP，好烦人，印第安人uncle也尽力演乐的感觉… 有几段还是明显的CG部分，不知道这电影拍出来意义是啥
高逼格的文艺，摄影很棒，表演几乎挑不出毛病。怎么说呢……只是我格局不够欣赏不了
