The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 现实的开场，梦幻的结局，欢笑中反映出心酸的现实，印度已经能把这个题材拍的这么深刻了。
前期剧情有点慢，总体比较冗长，但很久没有看到关于同性题材这么有趣的喜剧了，最后各自出柜倒是很切合东亚的家庭情况，印度能拍出这种类型的片子真的算不错了
很奇妙的一次观影体验 在看之前我是不知道自己和女主有那么多相似的经历 可能人生如戏 戏如人生吧 陪你看电影的那个人 才是决定你爱不爱看电影的原因呐
两个半小时也不觉得长，故事叙述感很强。用轻喜剧展现给我们没出柜的Homo婚姻压力和全世界女性都一样的生育压力。电影里这种是完美结局了！游行的时候在彩虹旗下牵手一秒回到了泰剧not me！一想这是印度拍的，就值得多加一星。因为我们还是拍不出来。
没想到印度短短几年就已经可以拍出这种电影上大荧幕，两个画面~一个是游行，还有个是男主出柜后和妈妈抱在一起看得我泪流满面，想到曾经自己出柜时的场景……
自此，中国同影相比于邻国印度又落后了一截。
是好看的！时长稍微有点长
不是潮汕人，纯自来水。电影真的好看，生活化、自然而然的笑点，一家人之间温馨感动满满。妈妈的角色独立倔强，同时也内心柔软。简直闪着光，就像我阿妈[偷笑][偷笑]
虽然剧情和叙事都很一般，但场景和情节都太真实了，受众是在外的潮汕人吧？
饮食男女人之大欲，真情不需要多说话，
算是冷门佳作吧，没想到印度也能拍出同性题材的作品，确实颠覆了我的固有印象。在我印象里，印度的电影和电视剧一直都注重揭露社会的阴暗面，关注强奸妇女，人口拐卖等社会问题，可以说非常的大胆、新颖独特。这部电影也是如此，讲述两个同性恋，为了躲避家族的催婚，选择假结婚后发生的一些事情，搞笑中带有一些温暖和深思。立意很好，但仍有瑕疵，还有进步空间。对同性题材感兴趣的小伙伴可以一看。最后，我想到对于印度影视剧中的歌舞剧，我觉得这就是一种成功的文化输出。因为只要一谈到欢快的歌舞，总能想到印度。这也算是一种影视剧市场的成功输出，扩大了影响力，也提高了知名度。我觉得中国的影视剧也可以注重古装题材的输出，再不国际提高知名度和影响力，感觉啥啥都要被棒子国偷走了！生气！
有点惊喜。如果去台湾上映，这位潮汕妈妈值得一个金马影后提名。真的太真实了，现实里见过的闽南潮汕女人就是这样的……然后这个情节的主线也是一个真问题，身边太多这种因为媳妇是外地而被拆散的例子了。结尾确实有美化，电影嘛。
be yourself。冲破印度传统观念，时代和社会的进步
三星给生活文化展现，让我这个“外省人”第一次对潮汕有了直观感受。开头的一些无厘头喜剧（比如洗手间和相亲）看得很割裂。
最后希望世界越来越好，中国也一样，不要再有这么多偏见和戾气，爱本身就没有错，love is love

虽然但是，三段主角的情感经历也太水了，一见钟情然后光速确定关系，两个半小时的时长，何不认认真真讲好其中一段。
