The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 艾伦·索金千呼万唤始出来的历史律政片，再现1968年反越战运动后的那场被预先定罪和操控的审判。拍得十分工整，庭审论辩与过往闪回交叉叙事，台词还是一如既往地凌厉铿锵，可惜视听语言上还是较为呆板，群像有所侧重，部分人物并未塑造得有血有肉，但几位老戏骨的表演很有说服力（科恩、里朗斯、迈克尔·基顿，以及饰演法官的弗兰克·兰格拉）。放在这个时间推出，颇有借古讽今的用意，希望能在关键时刻力挽狂澜吧。（8.0/10）
索金目前的两部导演作品都是看完Act 3冲动多打一星。这里的剧本是加分项，但是如果给芬奇这类导演拍，原封照着剧本拍也是4星，if that make any sense...可能最合适还是拍成mini-series。以及雀斑选角好灾难...

此类电影看多了都是一个套路，主旋律社会题材，匠气又刻意，有几处剪辑上的亮点（叙说和闪回结合），一看就是奔着奥斯卡去的，估计能接着今年社会运势的东风拿一些提名。看戏外发现更多有意思的地方，小雀斑演的人物是简方达的前夫，当年奥斯卡影帝之争，被小雀斑最后时刻逆转的基顿演了个配角，两人同场出镜

说实话，初看这部电影，并没有太多共鸣，因为不了解那段历史背景。对于真实历史事件改编的电影，最大的收获是其介绍了一段不为大多数人所熟知的历史，它会促使我们去探索历史的真相。在查阅了维基百科之后，了解到这个事件和1968年相当广泛的一系列民主活动有深刻的联系。

物质基础和上层建筑缺一不可，他们没有物质基础，上层建筑也没整明白。无论是从政，还是culture revolution都没办法带来真正的改变。
本想着看着睡了，没想到一口气看完了，只有震惊，感动，艾伦索金的剧作和导演水平都是好莱坞顶峰级的 全世界都在看着
斑太可爱了，加✨。老保守左派索金向2020年下的战书（索金眼里的2020=1960，实际上这种语境的呼应也让人迷思），以及生动的ppt展示，Ted talk，网课教学。从头到尾对话没有一秒钟停止过，真是亵渎电影。索金，一个演讲型编剧，风格是高谈阔论和白男支教，但是这种对话结构，在戏剧表现和视听冲击上确实都很讨巧，不过还是适合电视剧的规模。作为电影，用交叉剪辑配合高密度的剧本唤起观众的观影情绪，只是补短而非补长罢了。内容，就怎么说，这算是今年我看过最试图对话严肃命题的商业电影了（含对本时代的一些贬义），感觉很快就会成为各轻知识分子播客对话今年各种activism的隐微材料。
开头与结尾的BGM就昭示着这是部庭审爽片XD结尾被感动到了，大概是“自己没有的权利只能通过围观来过瘾”心理吧（“我从未想过我会因自己的思想获罪”，感觉此类题材的庭审佳作都以此做母题（所以我们拍不出来，嗯……））
海登领导的学院学生“温和派”和“一群磕药的嬉皮士”的“激进派”，再加上几个“热心的中产阶级”就能阻止越南战争？阻止越南战争继续下去的是“胡志明小道”和陈庚为首的顾问团。美国政府发现这是个无底洞，及时止损才撤走的。
