故事比较简单但确实是古代民间故事的味儿，画面则是杂糅了多种传统艺术，脸谱、剪纸、传统玩具、年画、寺庙绘画的元素均有引用，因此影片的民族特色非常鲜明，这也是本片盛赞的一点。联系诞生年代即可知影片中诸多赤裸裸的讽刺源自哪个时代——那个时代的创作者是不可能回避这个主题的。比《大闹天宫》《哪吒闹海》弱，因为不管是主题还是画面表现都差了一截。
